Privacy policy

Short version: PlainJPG runs on your PC, collects nothing, and uploads nothing. Last updated 22 October 2026.

Who we are

PlainJPG is made and published by LEX GLOBAL IT S.R.L., a company registered in Romania (Nr. 268B, Viișoara, Bistrița-Năsăud, 420006). Contact: support@plainjpg.com. This policy covers the PlainJPG Windows app (the version downloaded from this site and the version sold on the Microsoft Store) and this website, plainjpg.com.

What the app collects: nothing

PlainJPG converts WebP, HEIC and AVIF images to JPG or PNG entirely on your computer. It does not collect, store or transmit personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no telemetry. Your images are never uploaded, and the app makes no network requests of its own.

The app opens a web page only when you click a link in it: the Microsoft Store page of a missing image codec, or this website. Those pages are covered by Microsoft's privacy statement and by this policy respectively.

What stays on your PC

PlainJPG keeps two small files in your Windows local app data folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\PlainJPG; for the Microsoft Store version, the package's own app data folder):

  • Settings: your preferences, such as output format, JPG quality, output folder, whether to keep camera info and file dates, and the trial counter.
  • History: a list of files you converted on this PC (file names, locations, sizes, dates and the result), shown in the app's History panel.
  • Licence key (downloaded version only): the key you pasted, so you do not have to enter it again.

These files never leave your computer. You can delete them at any time by removing that folder; uninstalling the Microsoft Store version removes them automatically.

Image metadata

When Keep camera info is on (the default), PlainJPG copies the EXIF and XMP metadata from the original image into the converted copy: date taken, camera, lens, location if the original had it, orientation and similar fields. This happens only on your device and only for your own files. Switch the option off to write copies with no metadata. We never see any of it.

Buying a licence

Purchases on this website are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment details and email address under its own privacy policy; we never see your card number. We receive your email address and name to issue and send your licence key, and we keep that order record (email, name, key, order id, date, amount) for as long as the licence is valid, so we can resend the key, handle refunds and meet accounting obligations. Purchases on the Microsoft Store are handled by Microsoft; we receive no personal data from them.

This website

plainjpg.com is a static site. Our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested page, browser type, time) for security and for counting downloads; they are rotated after 14 days. The site sets no cookies and uses no third-party analytics or advertising.

Email

If you write to support@plainjpg.com we keep the conversation for as long as needed to help you, and we do not add you to any list.

Children

PlainJPG is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what data we hold about you (for most people: none, or one order record), have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use. Write to support@plainjpg.com. You can also complain to your local data protection authority; ours is the Romanian ANSPDCP.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date. The app itself does not change what it collects: nothing.
